Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Wahoo Cray
Wahoo wants everyone to get along. He tries to make his dad be respectful to his employers and reasons with Mickey, reminding him of how badly they need the paycheck Derek is willing to fork over. He wants everything to work out and for no one to get hurt, which makes him an easy character to rally behind. But he isn't God in this book.
Wahoo tries with all of his power to make things run smoothly, and when the situation gets dicey he is the first one to feel responsible and figure out a next move to solve the problem. Even hearing about how bad Tuna's home life is hurts his heart and gives him a heavy burden. He seeks out his mother for support and confides in his dad, in addition to being mature and a hard worker who never complains. Wahoo is definitely a keeper.
