Antagonist
Character Role Analysis
John Aycliffe
The antagonist is the character who stands between the protagonist and whatever he or she wants. This character does a lot of antagonizing the protagonist, you might say. Sometimes, though not always, this character is the Bad Guy, and that's definitely the case with Crispin. John Aycliffe pursues Crispin in order to kill him with an intensity that borders on obsessive. If Crispin wants something, John Aycliffe wants to get in his way, every single time.
