There's no doubt that Crispin is the protagonist, the main character, the dude the story's about, whatever you want to call it. His name is on the cover, which is a pretty good indication, but if that's not enough to convince you, he's also the narrator. Add to all that the fact that all the action in the story is directed toward solving his problems, and we've got a watertight argument for Crispin as the main character.
