Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
Bear
Just like the roles of the protagonist and the antagonist, this one is very clear. Bear adopts Crispin, becoming the father he never had. He makes Crispin his apprentice, teaching him the tools of the traveling performer's trade (as well as the tools of the political troublemaker's trade). Additionally, Bear becomes a literal guide, helping Crispin make his way on the roads and teaching him how to hunt for food along the way.
