- When the tornado hits, Emmaline throws herself on Miracle to save her from the impact. Toole curls up in a ball, and he's so traumatized by the storm that when it's over, he runs over to Casey and apologizes for being such a creep.
- The house is totally demolished, except for the garage and everyone's cars. They start sorting through the rubble, trying to make some sense out of the destruction.
- Granddaddy Opal calls out that he's found something. When everyone looks, they find him clutching three boxes filled with paper. He says they are Dane's original manuscripts of his novels. Then, as if this whole thing isn't already a fine mess, he has a heart attack.
