Steaminess in "Eleven"? Yeah… no.
Our protagonist, Rachel, has just turned eleven years old in this short story, so her struggles with understanding sexuality are still a few years away. True, there are stories with girls dealing with sexuality at extraordinarily young ages—Lolita being the go-to example—but Cisneros's tale isn't one of them. Instead, Rachel's extraordinary experience is found in the more typical eleven-year-old's world of red sweaters and math problems.
