The Narrator

The narrator talks to us in such a friendly, down-to-earth way like she's our new bestie, so of course we're rooting for her just like we would any good protagonist. We hope, in particular, that she gets that sense of gratitude from her daughter Dee that she fantasizes about in the beginning of the story. But when she doesn't, the next best thing is watching her stand up to Dee on behalf of Maggie in the end.
