Character Analysis
Father of Poeana and captor of Amyas, Corflambo embodies the recklessness and decadence of unrestrained power. Riding a camel, he is associated with what Western Europe perceived to be the dangerous luxuriousness of the Middle East and (as they saw it) their immoral religious associations.
His names suggests the image of a flaming heart, and his behavior show that he is someone governed more by his passions and his desire for power than by reason or by law. Thus, his ill-thought-out attempt to recapture Placidas, results in his swift death. By placing his extreme desires before his duties as a ruler, he ends up losing his life and his kingdom.
