The Vietcong

You could argue that Captain Stewart is an antagonist, or one of the other superiors who pisses Perry off, but the core of the story is the war itself. When Perry's platoon goes out on guard duty or a mission, their goal is almost always to kill members of the Vietcong before they get killed first.
