Character Analysis
Okay, so while Hagrid isn't exactly a character in this book, he does love his beasties…and, also, he shows up enough times in Harry's little margin notes that we thought we was worth a mention.
- After the mention of the 1965 Ban on Experimental Breeding, Harry quips "no one's told Hagrid." (6.9)
- Harry writes that a beast with a M.O.M. classification of XXXXX is "anything Hagrid likes." (8.3)
- When Mr. Scamander explains that Chimera eggs are Class A Non-Tradeable Goods, Harry imagines that "Hagrid'll be getting some anytime now." (11.4)
- Harry renames that Norwegian Ridgeback "Baby Norbert" (12.14) after Hagrid's pet dragon.
- The book explains that Hippogriffs should only be approached by experts and Harry wonders "has Hagrid read this book?" (16.2)
Yeah, so it sure looks like Hagrid has a fondness for ignoring Mr. Scamander's advice…and wizarding law in general. What can we say? Hagrid just loves really scary and super dangerous beasts. He can't help himself. What's clear is that even with Hagrid's flaws (and they are many) Harry still loves the big guy.
