- Sean isn't just easy on the eyes—he's also a ridiculously skilled dude, who can play basketball, do hard math, and even season chicken. Since their mama is sleeping, he goes into the kitchen to start making up some dinner, and Frannie helps out.
- She's allowed to put things on the table and make the rice, since she is not as skilled a cook as he is. As they're bickering over how to make the rice perfect, their dad comes home.
- He comes in holding flowers in his hands, and Frannie runs up to hug him. He's a truck driver, so he's been away since Wednesday—he is often gone for days at a time, and the kids miss him like crazy.
- Daddy shouts for mama, but the kids tell her that she is resting. When they say that, his smile disappears and he goes off into their mama's room.
- Sean grabs a jar for the flowers and sets them up, then they make the table together without saying anything.
- Apparently, when Sean was a baby, the doctors wanted to do some kind of experimental surgery on his ears, but their parents said no. They didn't like the idea of him being a test subject—and they didn't want him to be in any kind of danger.
- They start playing a game where they sign words at each other and the other person has to describe it. They have to describe things like the ocean, or a color, or music.
- Their daddy comes out of the bedroom with a twitchy eyebrow and says that they should eat without mama; she still has to rest up. They have dinner, but they don't talk much since they're all listening for mama to come out of the room.
- They make small talk and their daddy asks them if anything interesting happened at school, but both kids shake their heads.
- Then their daddy does something unexpected. He signs to them that there's another baby coming. That's why their mama is so tired: She's pregnant.
- Instead of being happy about it, Frannie gets upset. She was supposed to be the baby of the family, and she announces that if it's a girl, she's not going to share her room. Well then.
