Ulysses the Squirrel Timeline and Summary
MoreUlysses the Squirrel Timeline and Summary
- Ulysses is out on the Tickhams' lawn when he gets vacuumed up.
- Miraculously, he survives, and Flora decides to call him Ulysses, thinking he's a superhero. To prove her right, the little guy grabs the vacuum cleaner and lifts it over his head.
- Still reeling from the vacuum incident, Flora takes Ulysses back to her place, where her mom freaks out about having a dirty, diseased rodent in her house.
- He's hungry so he grabs some cheese puffs and types "squirtel" on the typewriter.
- Tootie wants to see if the squirrel really is a superhero, so she brings the little guy and Flora over to her place; Tootie's great-nephew, William Spiver, is also there, and they watch Ulysses types on the computer.
- Flora brings Ulysses into a diner with her dad, but the waitress flips when she sees our main squirrel. He jumps in her hair, flies across the restaurant, lands by the door, and books it out of there with Flora and her dad.
- Ulysses sees a donut with sprinkles and hears about sunny-side up eggs, both of which he wants.
- At Flora's dad's place, Flora and Dr. Meescham nurse the squirrel back to health and feed him.
- Out in the hall, Mr. Klaus, a mean cat, attacks Flora's dad, and Ulysses fights him off, which convinces Flora's dad that he's a superhero. He promises not to kill Ulysses even though Flora's mom wants him to.
- They go back to Flora's mom's pad, where explanations and arguments ensue, until finally Flora's mom agrees to let Ulysses stay.
- Ulysses sneaks downstairs for a midnight snack and poetry session, but Flora's mom catches him and forces him to type a letter to Flora saying that he's leaving her. Ouch.
- Then Flora's mom kidnaps him. Out in the woods, Ulysses doesn't know what to do, so he pushes away Phyllis's shovel and flies over to where he can find Flora.
- Eventually they all meet up at Dr. Meescham's place. Flora's mom apologizes for kidnapping Ulysses, perhaps because she saw him fight off Mr. Klaus with her own two eyes.
- Everyone cheers up and reads Ulysses's latest poem.
