Character Role Analysis

Jean Louise Finch

If we hadn't read To Kill a Mockingbird, oh, seventy-two times (roughly), or if To Kill a Mockingbird had never existed (horrors!), Jean Louise would still be the protagonist of Go Set a Watchman. She is present in every chapter. She is the first character we meet, and the last character we see. And it is her story—her struggle for an independence she doesn't want and didn't know she needs—that drives the entire novel.
