Bring on the tough stuff - there’s not just one right answer.
- How would you describe the speaker's voice throughout the poem? Does she sound any different by the very end?
- What's with the "improper" grammar? Why doesn't the speaker just say, "these are good times"?
- Does the second stanza look any different compared to the first? What do you notice that's different about the setting?
- Why does the speaker keep repeating the refrain, "good times"? Why not vary things up a bit?
- What's the effect of describing mom's home cooked bread? What does that kind of imagery contribute to the poem's mood?
