There are lots of great tidbits to be gleaned from Gramsci's Letters from Prison. Here's a small sampler.

All his life, Gramsci was known as a "hunchback." He probably suffered from Pott's disease, a form of tuberculosis that causes problems with the growth of the spinal cord. (Source.)

As you'd expect, Gramsci's prison sentence was trying to say the least, and his letters are filled with dispiriting accounts of life behind bars. (Source.)

The letters are also punctuated by poignant—sometimes unbearably poignant—moments, like this one.

On the other hand, there are moments of such intense self-questioning that you can't help but wonder.
