Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Harrison Bergeron
It's hard to figure out which roles the characters in the story are playing when everyone is forced to be equal. Since Harrison is the only character who attempts to defy his handicaps, he gets the starring role. Plus, the story is named after him, so that has to count for something.
If we lived in this 2081 equality-obsessed society, we'd be secretly rooting for Harrison, hoping he'd help break our bonds too. Unfortunately, Harrison turns out to be kind of an anti-hero, declaring himself Emperor. Is this the best protagonist we can hope for in a future dystopia? Seems that way.
