Dean is another one of Harry's four Gryffindor dorm-mates, along with Ron, Neville, and Seamus Finnegan. While the second years are talking about what they'll take in third year, Dean closes his eyes and jabs his wand at the list. After all, he is a Muggle-born; like Harry, he has no idea what to choose or why.
