- Naturally, Harry tells Ron and Hermione what he saw in the diary.
- Ron's not so sure about this Tom Riddle character, but Harry thinks Tom had a pretty strong case. If Hagrid's monster had killed someone then it had to be stopped. Maybe they should just go talk to Hagrid?
- Just then, Hagrid comes up behind them but, of course, they don't have the courage to confront their friend about whether or not he was responsible for the death of one of his classmates fifty years ago.
- Right after this little encounter, Harry finds out his bunk has been ransacked and Tom Riddle's diary has been stolen. The plot thickens.
- Later, Harry's getting ready for Quidditch when Professor McGonagall tells Harry and Ron that Hermione has been petrified. She was found by the library with a mirror in her hand. What was that girl up to this time?
- In the Gryffindor common room, Professor McGonagall explains some new school rules for security and tells the students that Hogwarts will probably be closed down if these attacks don't stop.
- History really is repeating itself. Harry decides their situation is getting desperate. He and Ron take the invisibility cloak and head out to talk to Hagrid to find out what he knows about the Chamber of Secrets.
