- The Gryffindor Quidditch team is getting ready to practice when the Slytherin Quidditch team rolls up. Oh, no. It's time for a rumble.
- Seems that the Slytherin Quidditch team needs to train their new seeker—Draco Malfoy. Oh, and the Slytherins also all have new brooms—Nimbus Two Thousand and Ones—courtesy of Lucius Malfoy.
- Guess you had to buy your way on the team, Hermione tells Draco.
- "No one asked your opinion, you filthy little Mudblood," Draco replies.
- Ron is not having it so he pulls out his wand and tries to curse Draco but the spell rebounds back on him and he starts coughing up slugs. Sigh.
- They take Ron to Hagrid's hut and explain what happened. Apparently "Mudblood" is like the wizard equivalent of a racial slur.
- Wizards like the Malfoys see themselves as "pure-blood" but they see witches like Hermione with non-magical parents as folks with "dirty blood" polluting the magical community.
- Hagrid tells Hermione it's all garbage since it's totally bigoted and, anyway, Hermione is way better at magic than any of them.
- Later, Harry finally has his detention…with Professor Lockhart.
- Harry is helping answer Lockhart's fan mail when he hears some voices. Spooky.
- He mentions this to Lockhart who is obviously weirded out and ends the detention. We thought this guy had all kinds of experience with epic monster-fighting adventures? Hmm…
