- The movie opens with a shot of Privet Drive. Inside an upstairs bedroom, we see Harry Potter sitting at a desk looking at picture of his parents and friends. Sigh.
- Hedwig, his owl, is making noise because she can't get out of her cage. Harry reminds her that he can't use magic outside of school to release her.
- Uncle Vernon calls Harry downstairs to go over some plot points. Seems that Harry has been upgraded from the cupboard under the stairs to Dudley's second bedroom. Not too shabby. He also hasn't gotten any letters from his friends all summer and that just makes us feel all the feelings.
- Uncle Vernon also sets the scene for the evening. While he, Aunt Petunia, and Dudley are downstairs entertaining Uncle Vernon's business clients, the Masons, Harry is supposed to stay up in his room, make no noise, and pretend he doesn't exist.
- This is a really big night for Uncle Vernon and Harry is not to ruin this.
- Oh, we've got a bad feeling about the next scene.
