Character Role Analysis

Cedric Diggory

Cedric and Harry share some key stats:

• They're both brave and honest dudes
• They're both Triwizard Champions from Hogwarts
• They both like Cho

However, there are some, er, distinctions as well:

• Cedric is older
• They're from different houses (Harry is from Gryffindor and Cedric is from Hufflepuff)
• Cedric is definitely kind of a teen dreamboat, while Harry is still more of a kid.
• But a point in Harry's favor: he seems to be, perhaps, a bit sharper than Cedric. According to Moaning Myrtle, Harry figured out the clue for the second task much more quickly than Ceddy.
• Cedric is actually dating Cho (much to Harry's angst)
• Harry is "The Boy Who Lived." Cedric, well, isn't. ::sob::

So, yeah, we have lots of reasons to lump them together—they are both great, brave guys—but as the film progresses, we see more and more how their characters diverge.
