Scene 46
- In California, the First Lady isn't doing well at all. Yikes, why isn't anyone looking for her? Oh right—the military is a little bit distracted (and depleted).
- Suddenly, overhead, Jasmine sees a helicopter. It's Steve. They're rescued.
Scene 47
- The President takes his daughter to visit the First Lady, who's now on the base getting care.
- The doctor tells the President the First Lady's internal bleeding is too severe for her to recover. He tries to put on a brave face for his wife, but she knows the score.
- He eventually exits the room and confirms to his daughter that, "Mommy's sleeping." That's a subtle, family-friendly, PG-13 way of letting us know she's died. #RIP1stLadyWhitmore
Scene 48
- Here we are—it's finally the actual 4th of July. Maybe the holiday will bring our characters some much-needed good luck.
- David is having trouble coping with everything that's going on, so his father gives him a pep talk.
- When he tells David to get off the floor before he catches a cold, David seems to get an idea and rallies all the scientists/assembled forces (the Prez too) together.
- He shows them how he can give the alien ships a computer virus and disable their shields. To get the virus to the mother ship, he suggests flying up the alien ship they have at Area 51.
- The Secretary of Defense is skeptical, and the President's finally so fed up with him that he fires him.
Scene 49
- Around the world, various countries receive word—via Morse code—of the Americans' plans.
- Unfortunately, the U.S. is having trouble finding enough pilots to participate in the counter offensive.
- The authorities start rounding up people around the Area 51 base who have any kind of flight experience, and that's how Russ ends up volunteering despite his recent—um—questionable behavior.
Scene 50
- General Grey's helping Steve and David get ready to head up to the alien spaceship.
