Character Analysis
Like Connie, Jasmine's all about taking care of herself. As a single mom, so she's got a lot of responsibilities resting on her shoulders—and she's fierce about making sure she's meeting them.
She seems willing to do pretty much whatever needs to happen to protect and provide for her son, Dylan. The most obvious example? Saving Dylan from a giant wave of fire that sweeps through a traffic-clogged tunnel after the alien attack.
The second-most obvious example? Jasmine's super-serious about making sure she's providing for her family. She works as an exotic dancer to make ends meet, and even though others (like the First Lady and Steve's friend Jimmy) seem to think she might or should be ashamed, she's not:
FIRST LADY: So, what do you do for a living?
JASMINE: I'm a dancer.
FIRST LADY: Oh. Ballet!
JASMINE: No, exotic.
FIRST LADY: Oh. Sorry.
JASMINE: Don't be! I'm not. It's good money. Besides, my baby's worth it.
FYI, the ladies have this conversation while Jasmine is taking care of the First Lady post-injury, so we get the sense that Jasmine is pretty good at protecting and helping even people who aren't Dylan.
She and Steve have a sweet, teasing relationship. We get the picture right away that Steve is a smart aleck, and Jasmine is definitely able to dish it right back to him. When he's joking around about his "other girlfriends" before leaving for El Toro, she isn't ruffled:
JASMINE: There you go, there he goes, thinking you're all that. But you are not as charming as you think you are, sir.
STEVE: Yes, I am.
JASMINE: Them big old Dumbo ears.
Since they're obviously so well matched, we're pumped that they get their happy ending.
