You may be wondering how an antagonist and a mentor could ever be the same person in the same story. But people change, as everyone knows, and the changes people undergo are at the center of It Happened One Night. The film follows Andrews as he comes to care more about his daughter's wellbeing than her choice of husband. And then we witness his sponsorship of her choice of a ne'er-do-well like Peter as a life partner. In the end, it's Andrews who urges Ellie to abandon King Westley at the altar—just in time, it turns out.
