Mary has loved George since he was a boy. But, she's got to get him to realize that he's in love with her. Once he falls, he falls hard and stays that way throughout the film. His love deepens as he gets older and raises a family with her, but that passionate kiss at the end of the film says it all about his complete devotion to her.
