The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, one of America's preeminent scary stories, turns out to be another case of horror-hype. The popular image is of the Headless Horseman running around town murdering people left and right. But….wait a second…the Headless Horseman isn't murdering people left and right. In fact, he's probably not murdering anyone at all. There's the slight possibility he kills Ichabod at the end of the story, but that's probably not even the case. In all likelihood, that's just Brom Bones pretending to be the Horseman. And that's if any of the story is really true at all.

All this confusion leads to two potential challenges you'll face with this story. One is that, since it's been adapted so many times, including as a major movie starring Johnny Depp, lots of students will assume they know the story. And anyone who assumes Tim Burton adapted anything accurately…well, there's an expression about assuming for just this occasion.
