- Reese gets a call from the precinct. They ask him if he wants twenty years or three years. Reese wants zero years; he's told he has two days to think it over.
- Reese is so worried that he makes himself sick. He can't eat either, and he's having trouble even standing up. The prospect of twenty more years in jail is just too much for him to bear.
- Reese flashes back to the break-in where he stole the prescription pads. He had heard a noise and skedaddled before he could even steal the cash that was on the doctor's desk.
- His innocence doesn't matter, though—Reese knows it's his words against those cops'.
