Character Role Analysis
Paul and Betty Kasoura vs. Childan
Paul and Betty Kasouras are Japanese hep cats who totally dig American culture and like Americans. Robert Childan is an American square who only thinks about selling American culture without bothering to understand it, and who really envies Japanese culture—while at the same time hating the Japanese. (At least, that's how he starts off.) So we couldn't blame you if you liked the Kasouras more than you like Childan. They know how to appreciate different cultures and peoples.
Caroline Abendsen vs. Juliana Frink
Caroline and Juliana are both women that Hawthorne Abendsen could be interested in. (He's only married to one, but we don't think that would stop him.) But they're pretty different about one big thing: Caroline doesn't really want to know the truth about her husband's book and Juliana does. This is why Caroline isn't too happy with Juliana at the end.
