Exactly how steamy is this story?

Even if the Nazis won, there would still be a lot of sex in the world. (Although, as Juliana notes, the Nazis might have some sexual hang-ups (3.62).) We don't see any sex, thankfully, but it's clear that some people are having sex, like when we hear that "On a sheet on the floor of the front room of her apartment, Juliana lay holding Joe Cinnadella against her" (9.55). Sex and lust are just another set of human motivations that move these characters through the story, like Childan's racism and greed.
