Character Analysis

Actions

The characters in The Angel Experiment definitely reveal themselves through their actions. For example, we know that Max is a great leader because she's willing to make sacrifices for her flock. We also know that Dr. Martinez and Ella are trustworthy because they give Max shelter without ratting her out to the authorities.

On the flip side, we know that Jeb isn't to be trusted because he's lied to the flock and betrayed their love. It's also clear that the scientists at the School are bad because they experiment on kids without thinking about their feelings, physical discomfort, or the fact that many of the "experiments" end up dying.

Physical Appearances

Even though it's wise not to judge a book by its cover, the characters in The Angel Experiment are kind of easy to read based on physical appearance. At least when it comes to the experiments, it's clear that the flock members (who basically resemble normal human kids with wings) are all peaceful and just looking to live out their lives. On the other hand, the Erasers have terrifyingly wolfish physical features—and that's reflected in their personalities. Check it:

Startled, I stared down at her, and in the next second, men with wolfish muzzles, huge canines, and reddish, glinting eyes dropped out of the sky like spiders. (4.18)

Yikes, right? The Erasers really do sound like some seriously creepy predators. They're all hungry for blood and destruction, and it's best to keep far, far away from them.
