Character Analysis
Even though Max only gets to know Dr. Martinez briefly, the woman leaves a huge impression on our main girl. Ella's mom, Dr. Martinez is kind, caring, and a force to be reckoned with. She takes Max in without asking too many questions about her wings (which would be hard to do), and is basically everything that Max is looking for in a maternal figure. When Max leaves them, Dr. M. doesn't try to force her into promising she'll keep in touch—she just gives her their phone number and tells her that she can always rely on them for help. How's that for a guardian angel?
