Character Analysis
Ella is the kid Max swoops down to save from bullies, despite her better instincts. Max ends up getting to know Ella better when she stays with the girl and her mom as she recovers form being shot. Even though Ella comes to see Max as an older sister figure, for their safety, Max cannot stay with them or promise to visit, which ends up upsetting Ella. Maybe someday they'll be able to see each other again, but for now, Max has to leave Ella behind and deal with more pressing (and life-threatening) matters.
