Character Role Analysis
Frankie Dunn
Frankie is a good guy who's forced to make some seriously devastating choices. Maggie may be the superstar boxer, but Frankie—a hardworking man of faith who puts a high price on honor—is the emotional core of the movie. He's the one who grows. At the beginning, he's a guarded old curmudgeon struggling to atone for past sins both real (his daughter) and imagined (Scrap). He's set in his ways. By the end, though, he's a loyal, loving, vulnerable father determined to do what's best for his surrogate daughter. He's a tragic figure, for sure, but he's a brave one, too.
