Delphine Gaither

Delphine wears many caps in the book, but all of them are important: She's our leading lady, narrator, and trusted adviser. She also goes through a big change in the book, learning a lot about herself and her history over the course of the her summer in Oakland, which helps her understand where her mom's coming from a lot more. There's no doubt about it: Delphine is our protagonist, the star of the show and the girl we root for from her initial take-off to her final landing.
