Miloš Forman

Get ready to meet a legend.

Hailing originally from Czechoslovakia, Miloš Forman is considered one of the best movie directors of all time.

He's got a fascinating biography that most definitely informed his filmmaking artistry. He fled his home country because of the Soviet invasion in 1968 and travelled to the United States. As a dude who escaped Soviet rule, it makes sense that Forman would have a soft spot for movie characters who rebel against larger forces of conformity and discipline.

On top of the five Oscars he helped win for One Flew, he helped win a staggering eight more Oscars with the 1984 film Amadeus, which you should also totally check out if you enjoyed One Flew. Forman is known for his avant-garde aesthetics. A part of the Czechoslovak New Wave movement in art and film, his movies often feature a winning combo of dark humor and the human spirit, which, when melded with his filmmaking techniques, creates inevitable hits.
