- McMurphy is out in the recreation yard. He gets Chief to come over and stands on his shoulders to try and get over the security fence.
- Then he just sort of looks around and walks away from the institution. Chief smiles to see him get out.
- But McMurphy hasn't gone anywhere. When the unrestricted patients get on a school bus for their usual recreation trip, McMurphy is already hiding on the bus. He waits until they're all on and drives away with them. Now they're on a sort of road trip.
- The bus makes a stop so McMurphy can bring along a woman he knows named Candy.
- McMurphy drives the bus to a boat chartering service and gets all of the patients onto a boat.
- But a man comes running down the dock to stop them. He asks who they are, and McMurphy answers that they're all from the state mental institution… doctors from the institution, that is.
- Candy warns McMurphy he'll get thrown in jail, but he says the worst thing that can happen to him is that he'll get thrown back in the mental institution.
- Next thing you know, McMurphy and his gang are on a fishing cruise. It's clear that this is the happiest any of the patients have been in a long time.
- Billy Bibbit wanders over to talk to Candy, and he tells her she has beautiful hair and eyes before McMurphy calls him back.
- While everyone is fishing, McMurphy goes down into the hold of the boat with Candy. But not a minute goes by before all the patients leave their rods and go look through the windows to see what McMurphy is up to.
- When he sees everyone missing, Cheswick stops steering the boat and everything falls into chaos. A fish bites one of the lines and everyone goes into a mad scramble to get the rod.
- When they finally get back to shore, they have a couple of huge fish in their hands.
- But there's also an entire police team waiting for them at the dock.
