Nine-year-old Quentin discovers a dead body with nine-year-old Margo Roth Spiegelman.
Eighteen-year-old Margo Roth Spiegelman drags eighteen-year-old Quentin along for a night of revenge and SeaWorld.
When Margo disappears, Quentin is determined to find her.
He and his friends, Ben and Radar, search Margo's room after they notice a poster she stuck to the back of her window shade.
Quentin believes she's leading him to a copy of Leaves of Grass and he obsessively reads the book for clues to her whereabouts.
The poem leads him to a clue that takes him to a nearby abandoned strip mall, where Margo has been camping out.
After searching the mini-mall numerous times, Quentin discovers a map that might lead to her next location.
Or she could be dead. Quentin is worried.
It turns out she's alive, and she's camping out in Agloe, NY until May 29.
It's May 28, so Quentin and pals have to haul butt to Agloe and find her.
They do, and she says she didn't want to be found.
Quentin asks her to return home with him, but she doesn't want to—she has to go her own way and find her own identity.
They smooch and say goodbye.
