- On the last day of Victor's paper route, Mam goes to the grocery store and says that she'll make some food to celebrate his completion.
- He goes to the truck to collect papers and walks straight up to Willie, telling him that those papers are his—without even stuttering. Willie says that everything is okay and hands over the papers.
- After Victor delivers the papers, he goes to collect money from the houses. When he gets to TV Boy's house, he sees that he's outside instead of inside watching the television.
- That's when he realizes that TV Boy can't hear what he's saying; he's deaf. Victor watches as TV Boy and his mother sign back and forth to each other, and decides that he would make a good friend.
- He can't hear Victor stuttering, and because Victor's such a good ball player, he'd probably be good at learning how to sign.
