Reverend Olamina

Lauren's father is a big guide in her life, but he's not a perfect one. He's a religious leader; she becomes a religious leader like him. He gives sermons; she gives sermons. As he does, so she does—to an extent. She differs with him in many ways, such as the degree to which she wants to alarm everyone about the danger facing Robledo. She wants to tell everyone the changes hitting her hometown are incredibly important, but he makes her promise not to scare everyone with talk of Armageddon.

Still, despite their differences, Reverend Olamina remains a strong, positive, guiding force in Lauren's life. And then he sadly vanishes, and Lauren has to figure out things for herself.
