Yep, Lauren's our protagonist. She's the first-person narrator of the novel, and usually (though not always), a first-person narrator is also the protagonist. But since you can't trust that guideline 100%, here's what you can trust (well, most of the time): the protagonist is the main character whose goal-seeking is the primary focus of the book. Yeah, this is Lauren's story. She's on a quest to get out of her hometown and spread Earthseed. We root for her, and she pulls it off. All of that spells protagonist to us.
