- A forlorn Tom pays a visit to Pudd'nhead.
- Tom laments to Pudd'nhead that Driscoll is super upset that Tom wouldn't agree to the duel with Luigi and that he's been excluded from the will again.
- Tom also mentions that Driscoll had been in a bad mood the day before because he'd lost his watch. Wilson replies that the watch probably wasn't lost, but stolen since many of the townspeople have been burglarized lately.
- The two are interrupted by a knock at the door. It's Justice Robinson, Buckstone and the town constable, Jim Blake, stopping by to chat with Pudd'nhead.
- Pudd'nhead tells the men that Driscoll's watch has been stolen which leads to a discussion about the rash of robberies. Blake tells them he suspects that the thief is a woman.
- Pudd'nhead points out that the good thing is that the thief can't pawn or sell the knife that she stole from the twins.
- See, once the twins realized it was gone, they informed the police and pawnbrokers so if the lady tried to sell it, she'd be caught.
- Bad news for Tom, right? He's not going to be able to sell the knife and get the money to pay off his debts now, he thinks.
- The men point out that the twins aren't going to ever get their knife back since the thief will likely hear about the reward and not try to sell the knife, but Pudd'nhead assures them that he's worked out a plan to make sure that they do get it back. He's being awfully secretive.
- Then out of the blue, Robinson tells Pudd'nhead that they have all come as a committee for the Democratic party to ask him to run for mayor.
- Mayor? Wow. Pudd'nhead is elated and accepts the offer.
