- Pembroke reports to Driscoll that Luigi has accepted the challenge of the duel. The big event will be held between Pudd'nhead's house and the haunted house.
- After Pembroke leaves, Driscoll starts thinking about Tom. Afraid that he might die in the duel, he decides to restore Tom to the will. He also decides that if he survives the duel, he won't tell Tom about restoring him until he changes his ways.
- As Driscoll is redrafting the will, Tom walks by Driscoll's office. He wonders what the old guy is up to.
- Tom hears Pembroke come into his uncle's room. He ducks out of sight so he can eavesdrop on them.
- Driscoll tells Pembroke about his plans for the will and asks him to sign as a witness.
- Duel time. Driscoll and Pembroke leave for the duel.
- Tom rushes into the office to check out the will and rejoices. He vows to himself that he'll never gamble or drink again (yeah, sure). And he'll also pay his debts.
- Except that he remembers he can't pawn Luigi's knife to make the money to pay off the debt. Drat.
- Ton goes to the haunted house to meet Roxy. She tells him about the duel that just took place right outside which Tom knows nothing about. It turns out neither Driscoll nor Luigi were killed.
- Tom tells Roxy that he's been restored to Driscoll's will, but that he doesn't have enough money to get out of debt which may mean that his inheritance could be in jeopardy again.
- But Roxy's got an idea. She tells him to talk with the people to whom he owes money and tell them that Driscoll's going to die soon so they'll soon get the money—and in the meantime Tom will pay them interest.
- Tom agrees to the plan.
