Character Analysis
Janice’s mother could be seen as Janice’s own personal antagonist. Her hateful words in the phone call to Janice, just before Janice drowns the baby, make her a suspect in Rebecca June’s murder. She also represents decades of repression. Like Rabbit’s mother, she is a powerful figure nonetheless, impressing both Rabbit and Eccles at moments. Nelson loves her. She’s also very concerned with appearances, and thinks Janet is bringing the family into disgrace.
