Hmm. None, really. No human, at least. The only enemy in this novel is the stratified class system that keeps Mr. Stevens down and keeps Lord Darlington (for a time) up. But Stevens himself doesn't seem to be too resentful of this hierarchy, so maybe we shouldn't be either.
