Kiriel Timeline and Summary

  • Kiriel decides to steal a body so he can hang out on earth for a while. He figures no one will miss a teenager so he chooses one Shaun Simmons.
  • It's a little shaky getting his sea legs, but Kiriel quickly masters the walking thing and begins to appreciate his new surroundings—he's never been able to see, smell, and taste before, so everything is exciting.
  • Everything, that is, except Shaun's relationship with his little brother, Jason. The two fight like cats and dogs, and they even have pet names for one another like "jerkwad."
  • Kiriel likes exploring his new body in the shower and decides that he's got to have sex as soon as possible. He doesn't see what the big deal is.
  • At school, Kiriel gets bored with Shaun's classes, because he already knows the stuff they are teaching. Being alive for a few millennia will do that to you.
  • Plus, there's a bully named Reed that Kiriel has to deal with. He tries to get the guy to calm down, but it doesn't work very well.
  • One good thing about school? He gets to stare at Lane all day long. He knows she has a crush on Shaun, so Kiriel figures she should be pretty easy to hook up with. He invites her over to ahem, study. Wink, wink.
  • Later, Kiriel decides he should make peace with Jason—the kid has a tough time, after all, and has no friends—so he invites the kid over to Bailey's house to play video games after school.
  • Jason's surprised by the invite, but he accepts. They actually have fun playing together, too.
  • Kiriel hangs out with Lane one day after school and is surprised to find that she doesn't believe him when he tells her that she's beautiful. He's not just saying it to get with her either; he really thinks so.
  • Lane thinks they were actually going to do homework together, but quickly figures out Kiriel has other ideas.
  • Pretty soon, Lane and Shaun (a.k.a. Kiriel) make out and it's better than either of them imagined. The only problem? Lane wants to stop there—this is her first kiss so she doesn't want to rush it. Kiriel is bummed, but he understands.
  • Then he starts thinking about the impact he's had on the world. Down below, he doesn't really do much, but up here on earth, he can actually affect things.
  • He's already tried to help the bully realize the error of his ways, and next up is convincing Lane she's beautiful. Then he even encourages Jason to find some friends.
  • Kiriel's starting to feel pretty good about himself and his deeds when an angel shows up and tells him he's got to head back home.
  • He's bummed, but he gets it. The best news? Shaun gets to get his life back. Kiriel goes home knowing he's done some good. Yay.
