Character Analysis
Dem Bones
If Alice is evil by association, that association is with her aunt Bony Lizzie. She's known as Bony Lizzie because she uses bones to do magic. As in, human bones. As in, bones from children. OMG, scary.
Speaking of scary, there's Bony Lizzie's strange roommate, Tusk. Tusk is the son of the evil witch Mother Malkin. He's huge, burly, and has "horns growing out of each side of his mouth" (10.35).
When Tom looks into Tusk's eyes, he observes, "It was as if there was nothing alive inside his head" (11.26). Yeah, he's no model. Models have to smize.
A Haunting Duo
These two were brought together because Mother Malkin was a big fan of blood magic and eating children. They're still up to these old tricks in Tom's time too, trying to trick him into reviving Mother Malkin and kidnapping children. We guess the family that commits infanticide together stays together.
No wonder Alice wants to get the heck out of there. These two are no good, but especially for Alice—who we suspect might be more easily coaxed over to the dark side than our dear Tom.
