Old Rossum and Young Rossum

If humanity is the protagonist, who is guiding and leading and helping humanity towards the future? That would be Old Rossum, the atheist who wants man to replace God. It would also be Young Rossum, the engineer who wants to mass produce workers. They have two different visions of human achievement—one metaphysical, one mechanical. Together, they figure out a way for humanity to be more powerful than ever before—powerful enough to destroy itself. (Sometimes, following those mentors and guides isn't such a great idea, humanity.)
