Sarah is definitely the main character in Sarah, Plain and Tall—after all, the book is named after her. The story begins when Sarah comes into the Witting family's lives and joins their home, exploring the possibility of becoming a wife to Jacob and a stepmother to Anna and Caleb. Her appearance transforms their lives and makes their home more comfortable and joy-filled. The suspense in the book centers around whether Sarah will stay with the Witting family or return to her beloved hometown in Maine. So yeah, she might be plain and tall, but this is definitely Sarah's show.
