The fact that Gemma is our central character should be pretty obvious. Writers typically identify the protagonist of a story as the character who changes the most, and that's clearly her. There are literally tons of ways we could dissect this, from how she goes from being a city girl to surviving in the wilderness or how she initially resents Ty but develops strong feelings for him by the end of the story. Stockholm syndrome or no, Gemma's ordeal definitely leaves her changed.
