Graph 6x + 3y – 4z = 12.
The x-intercept is where the plane passes through the x-axis, and so y = 0 and z = 0.
6x + 3(0) – 4(0) = 12
6x = 12
x = 2
Then we find the y-intercept:
6(0) + 3y – 4(0) = 12
3y = 12
y = 4
And finally the z-intercept.
6(0) + 3(0) – 4z = 12
-4z = 12
z = -3
The intercepts are (2, 0, 0), (0, 4, 0), and (0, 0, -3). Connect them up inside the graphing cube.
Graph -2x – 2y + 14z = 14.
The x-intercept:
-2x – 2(0) + 14(0) = 14
-2x = 14
x = -7
The y-intercept:
-2(0) – 2y + 14(0) = 14
-2y = 14
y = -7
The z-intercept:
-2(0) – 2(0) + 14z = 14
14z = 14
z = 1
Now we have three intercepts: (-7, 0, 0), (0, -7, 0), and (0, 0, 1). Graph them, and then get out of Dodge.
